INDUSTRIAL LOGISTICS

Industrial Logistics offered in MITEC, focuses on the students’ skill from logistics and transport services perspective. Quality of the programs conducted by this institution is monitored through how we conduct the course as well as coursework given to students that meet the current industrial logistics needs. Content and course execution of this program are mainly tailored to not only art students but also to science stream students who don’t have any basic and passion in logistics and transportation. By doing this, it will increase the students intake in MITEC University Kuala Lumpur without interfering other degree/diploma program in other University Kuala Lumpur branches. By having Diploma/Bachelor of Industrial Logistics, MITEC will be able to produce high quality and skill full manpower that needs national development in Malaysia. Graduates from Diploma/Bachelor in Industrial Logistics will have good opportunity to join local, multinational and even international logistics company.

To promote the professionalism among students, MITEC has developed the collaboration program with professional bodies that is Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Graduate will benefit with the professional certificate from this CILT organisation by starting with Young Member Club (YMC) and Affiliate Member of CILT and they will automatically upgrade to Chartered Member of CILT once they have one year experience in logistics field. By this professional recognition student are able to work at any Commonwealth Country.

How does this programme fulfil the market needs and contribute to the social and national development?

With Malaysia’s strategic development in the logistics sector, such as, business expansion in air cargo hub, container port as well as in service industries like airlines, couriers and banks, the market demand for logistics professionals is tremendous. Typical problem in this area will include supply chain design (material handlings, facility location, plant layout, integrated production systems, warehousing, pricing, service support, custom and forwarding), supply chain operations (inventory control, 3rd & 4th party logistics, transportation and freight operations, air cargo systems, routing, network optimization, distribution channels) and tactical issues (item tracking). MITEC has risen to this challenge by offering programmes that prepares graduate as with knowledge of the strategic and economic principles of the efficient flow of materials, information, capital and products through the whole distribution network.

 Programme Educational Objectives:

 

  1. To produce graduates who are knowledgeable, competent, and innovative, which will contribute towards the human capital in logistics related industry.
  2. To produce graduates who have effective leadership and team work skills as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to support their role in industry. (management skills to enhance their roles in logistics industry).
  3. To produce graduates who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement [continuous professional development].
  4. To produce graduates who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility.
  5. To produce graduates who are capable of embarking on logistics business  and technopreneurial activities.

Programme Outcomes:

After completing the program, the students should be able to:

  1. Apply the theory and concept of logistics, transportation and distribution management and operations
  2. Lead and manage logistics and transportation daily operational activities.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant in industrial logistics practice.
  4. Broadly apply  and commit to profesional ethics, responsibilities and norms of industrial logistics practice.
  5. Communicate effectively and professionally, and manage teams to do logistics projects within the industry circle.
  6. Evaluate and apply appropriate techniques, resources and tools, to broadly-defined industrial logistics activities.
  7. Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning.

A Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent, with at least Grade C (CGPA 2.0)

OR

A Pass in Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in relevant fields from UniKL or from other recognized higher learning institutions

OR

Pass in UniKL Foundation in Science and Technology with a minimum CGPA of 2.0; OR Pass in Matriculation / Foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.0

OR

Pass in International Baccalaureate (IB) with at least 24 point

After completing the program, the students should be able to :

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to wide practical procedures and practices.
  2. Identify and solve well-defined quality engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to their field of activity.
  3. Design solutions for well-defined technical problems with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations
  4. Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements.
  5. Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools to well-defined quality engineering activities, with an awareness of the limitations.
  6. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse technical teams.
  7. Communicate effectively on well-defined quality engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions.

A pass in SPM/SPMV with at least five (5) credits in the following subjects:

Bahasa Melayu,

Mathematics,

One Science or Technical Subjects

and two other subjects;

and at least pass in English.

OR

Possess a Certificate from IKM/ILP recognized by the Senate or other certificates recognized by the Senate in relevant fields with a CGPA of 2.0 and above; and at least a pass in Bahasa Melayu at SPM level.

Industrial visits represent important activity, undergraduate program that contributes to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes and program objective. This industrial visit have been conducted at IRDA HQ area and it is one day trip.

ISEM for outbound program is not very much recognised and support by MITEC academic, nothing much to disclose, students applied have to go through many obstacles faces from management, no other campus facing such problem except here in MITEC, problems such as subjects need to match with foreign universities, study period is another factor where foreign university still with 14 weeks, we are now 17 weeks program, outgoing students will faces problems when they come back, they have another balance of 3 weeks needed to achieved but don’t know what to do….for incoming students, they are not interested with 17 weeks in MITEC, they rather go UBIS where is still 14 weeks program…
