Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has demonstrated its commitment to corporate responsibility by contributing RM448,865 worth of business zakat to Lembaga Zakat Selangor for the year 2022.
Aside from the obligation, Tabung Amanah Zakat (UniZ@UniKL) — UniKL’s zakat arm, distributed RM442,580 in zakat to 353 eligible students and employees for the same year.
In line with previous years’ practice, the Chairman of (UniZ@UniKL), Ts. Dr. Zulkifli Mahmoodin confirmed that the arm has approved zakat distribution for this year’s Ramadan relief to 328 UniKL students, the majority of whom are from the campus in Selangor.
“In addition to providing living assistance and Hari Raya contributions, UniZ@UniKL has extended its charitable initiatives to include other forms of relief such as flood assistance, fire relief aid, a donation to musalla, and human capital development for underprivileged individuals from UniKL’s Selangor campuses,” said he, who is also the Dean of UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI), in his opening remarks.
He spoke at the ‘Majlis Berbuka Puasa dan Pengagihan Zakat Universiti Kuala Lumpur 2023’ ceremony, held yesterday (April 12th), which took place on April 12th. The event was graced by the Director General of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Dato’ Sri Azhar Abdul Manaf.
During the ceremony, Dato’ Sri Azhar handed over UniKL’s zakat contribution to the Head of the District Distribution Operations Management Department, Encik Zainudin Johari, who represented Lembaga Zakat Selangor.
Also present were, Deputy Director-General (Management Services) of MARA, Rohayah Mohd Zain; Group Chief Executive Officer of Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd, YBhg. Dato’ Julainie Mohd Salleh; the Deputy Secretary General (Macro) of the Ministry of Economy, Encik Luqman Ahmad; and the President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar.
For the record, UniKL MFI hosted this year’s zakat coordination management and distribution, representing three other campuses located in Selangor which are UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) and UniKL Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH).
In a separate development, UniKL MFI has recently approved a business zakat contribution of RM11,000, underscoring the university’s dedication to charitable causes.
