Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL)’s participation in the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2023 was a resounding success, with all four research projects winning medals in various categories.

The university’s focus on research and innovation is evident in the quality of the projects and their practical applications.

The Kitcadtech-Creativa project, which focuses on teaching and education technology, led by Ts. Dr. Zirawani Baharum from UniKL UniKL Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC), was awarded the first silver medal.

The collaborative effort with researchers from other institutions including AHS Ideas Resources and Institut Bisnis dan Teknologi Pelita Indonesia aims to improve the teaching and learning experience of students and educators by leveraging technology.

The second silver medal was awarded to a research project from UniKL MITEC led by Ts. Dr. Mohd Aliff Afira Hj. Sani, where it explores the use of drone technology and machine learning to detect and prevent plant diseases in crops such as oil palm and bananas.

The research project titled “Deep Learning Models For Crop Leaf Disease Detection On Real-Time Drone Monitoring” highlights the potential for using machine learning and image processing techniques to provide a cost-effective and efficient solution for farmers.

Meanwhile, the Cardiovascular System Augmented Reality project led by Dr. Bazilah A. Talip from UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) won the third silver medal.

This collaborative research project with a researcher from the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) explores the use of augmented reality to teach medical students, doctors, teachers, and multimedia students about the cardiovascular system interactively.

Finally, the bronze medal was awarded to the Energy Efficiency via Fuzzy Logic for IoT Smart Building Control System project.

The project, created by two students from Bachelor of Computer Engineering (Computer System), Muhammad Danial Hakim Nazrin Izuan Gerard and Nur Damia Adnan, under the supervision of a group of lecturers from UniKL MIIT, focuses on improving energy efficiency in smart building control systems.

For the record, MTE 2023 took place from the 16th to the 18th of March, adopting a hybrid format whereby the main event, was held at the World Trade Center (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur.
