The technical competition, WorldSkills Malaysia Belia (WSMB) 2022 recorded the highest number of participants since it was introduced in 1989, indicating bright prospects for Malaysia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector moving forward.

The Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said that the record high is also a testament to Malaysia’s brimming young talent pool in the field.

For the record, the Ministry of Works (KKR), which is the main organiser for the competition, received 359 participants during the preliminary stage and accordingly, 82 contestants have been selected for the finals.

“We are confident that they are able to represent Malaysia up to the international stage, namely WorldSkills Asia scheduled next year, and WorldSkills International, which will be held in France, by 2024.

“I am assured that they will be able to bring home medals and make our country proud. I have great faith in our youth and I can see that we have very big potential in the TVET industry, moving forward,” he told.

He spoke to the media after the launching ceremony of the WSMB 2022 final competition, at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI), today (5 October 2022).

The final competition of WSMB 2022 commenced from 4 until 7 October. In this regard, UniKL MFI is assigned responsibility to host two contested areas which are Mechanical Engineering CAD and Refrigeration & Conditioning, out of a total of 12.

After the launching ceremony, Datuk Arthur visited the locations where two contested areas were concurrently undergoing competition.

Also in attendance were KKR’s Under Secretary for the Policy and International Division, Pn. Hamdiah Ismail; MARA Corporation Group Corporate Communications Senior Vice-President, Datin Nirvana Jalil Ghani; UniKL’s Covering Deputy President (Academic &Technology), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Khairil Rahmat; and UniKL MFI’s Covering Dean and Deputy Dean (Academic & Technology), Prof. Madya Tengku Mohd Azhar Tuan Dir.
